Halloween Mask-querade

Halloween in the time of Covid… what sums it better than masks? Don’t miss out on SSKB’s Mask-querade on October 30th!

A festive evening of art awaits you on Friday, October 30th. Join SSKB for their Halloween Mask-querade, a tribute to “Masks of the Titans,” a taproom art exhibition by John “Twyg” Hyde. Come down to the taproom between 8-10pm and chat up the artist, check out his 3D printed works and handcrafted Halloween costumes on display, and enter in the mask contest. Charlie Bennett of The Night Hobs will be performing some ethereal spooky tunes on the cello to set the scene!

In the spirit of Halloween and Covid, the contest prizes will be awarded to those with the best, coolest, or most creative masks. Whether they compliment the costume or ARE the costume, showcase your best! If there are nose/mouth holes in your mask, a Covid-appropriate one must be worn underneath.

The taproom and sidewalk café will remain open during the Mask-querade for folks to hang out. As safety is the #1 priority, we are remaining mindful of our 50% maximum capacity, and ask that everyone respects the social distancing guidelines.

John “Twyg” Hyde’s exhibition “Masks of the Titans,” will be on display in the taproom through November 8th.

— Artist Bio —

Inspired by the fusion of art and technology, John Hyde makes sculpture and costumed characters that explore the union of creepy looks with a friendly soul. His work asks us to consider if what we habitually see as unsettling can also be kind. In the late 1990’s John began his explorations with early versions of 3D digital art, then in 2016 he rekindled his endeavors by creating 3D printed fine art and costuming.

It is never too late to begin a new discipline, and driven by that ethic John has been learning with his hands how to blend his technological skills with traditional artistic modalities. John fashions forms and faces that provoke us to pause, and ponder each character’s counterpoint. John Hyde resides just outside of NYC with his wife and two cats; when not making art he can be found working in IT.
